of 26Lesson Plan Creating a diverse and inclusive lesson plan requires good planning and preparation on the teacher’s part. The classroom should be a safe place for all students where they feel a sense of belonging. Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment means developing a lesson plan and setup that provides accommodations and opportunities for all students. I will be discussing the lesson plan that will apply the approaches of culturally responsive teaching and differentiated instruction to create an inclusive and diverse classroom environment. Differentiated Instruction allows teachers options of varying learning activities where teachers vary the content, process, and product for each learner ( Stanford & Reeves, 2009, p. 3). This method will help me present the pieces in ways that fits my students. Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) focuses on all the assets students bring to the classroom (Educators team at Understood, n.d.) and it is a pedagogy that responds to all cultures. Classroom Scenario Class size is composed of 10 students in a group music class. One student named Megan has mild autism and needs her mom present during the lesson as she tends to get overwhelmed in group classes. One student named Yu Heng has ADHD and tends to be too hyper active and may distract his fellow students. Three students in the class population are still learning how to speak English fluently (Qian Yu, Kester, and Yan Kai), two students are very shy (Rochelle and Lucas), the remaining students (Mia, Grace, and Hao Xiang) are typical learners, but are all at different levels of achievement.
