Stephanie Smith Professor Zeytinoglu Speech Communication January 27, 2008 Weekly Essay #2 Issues in Communication 2 Our book reads that self-image means the picture you have of yourself; the sort of person you believe you are (Pearson et. al. 50). Florence’s self-image seemed to be low. Her father treated her different then who she really was. He treated her like a man instead of a woman for so long then when she needed to be the women he pushed her over the edge with it. Her father changed her self-concept by making her feel that no one would ever be allowed to own her. That is why she would never wear a wedding ring when she got married. The feedback that Florence received from her father was hurtful to her. He pushed her and pushed her so far she left the family even when her mother was sick and dying. Even though Florence was very successful in her early years she still did not make her father proud which is why she would always push herself harder.
