Class Meeting #11 (2/19/08) READ CHAPETER 4 AND 5 Test will be multiple choices, myth/fact/value questions and how, fill in the blanks, and short essay questions The human mind invents sound; things produce sound waves, and we translate it to sound Men evolved from women, not the other way around At 6 weeks, the outside of the genitals are changed by TESTOSTERONE The  inner lips  of the vagina close and create a tube for the  penile shaft o Inner labia = penile shaft The  clitoris  stays atop the shaft as it would for the inner labia o Clitoris = penile head The  outer lips  drop and bulge, becoming the  scrotum o Outer labia = scrotum INNER GENETALIA o Fallopian tube = vastefrence o Everyone has male and female tubes Female Muleran system and Male Wofian system They produce Muleran inhibiting susbstance (MIS) When this is produced in the fetus, it disentigrates the fallopian tubes The muleran is stronger than the wofian, and the presence of a muleran will stop the  wofian o The ovary becomes an internal testes and drops once the scrotum sack becomes available MALE parts (KNOW LOCATION AND FUNCTION FOR TEST) o The testes o Leydig cells (interstitial) o Seminiferous tubules

o Epididymis o Vas deferens o Seminal vesicle o Prostate gland o Semsn o Sperm o Testosterone o Corpora cavernosa, corpora o Spongiosum o Urethra o Bladder Two sacks that each house a testie o Sperm do not like to be too hot or cold; when it is warm the hermatic cord relaxes and lets the testicles drop to stay cook, and do the opposite when it is cold Lower sperm count by staying in a hot tub for a few hours or wearing tight underware (they keep the testes closer to the trunk) Drinking milk or eating food with female hormones also lowers sperm count (world wide) Sperm production happens in testes Epidymis above the testes (two) where sperm is stored The tube that takes sperm down is the vas deferens (two) To the prostate gland and out the male urethra Seminiferous tubes are wound around each other inside the testes (over 700 feet long for each testie) o This is where sperm are produced o 800-900 sperm a day o The tubes collect in the epidymis Testosterone is also produced in the testes in cells (interstituals) inbetween the above said tubes

o It leaves the testes through the blood stream; you can take blood from a finger and estimate  testosterone levels Sperm look like tadpoles o They have mitochondria (all cells do) o The head contains the nucleus/DNA o The nucleus is the important part, everything else is a delivery system
