Samantha Fasnacht April 2, 2007 NAS 106 Physical Science Demo Lab II Demo Lab II: Direct Current and Alternating Current The demonstration of direct current and alternating current is simple and only requires a pop a point pencil. In order to demonstrate the concept of direct current the person demonstrating simply explains that the pop a point pencil is the circuit and the pencil points are the electrons running through the circuit. The person demonstrating pulls the pop a point pencil point out of the barrel and sticks it into the top of the pop a point pencil, which causes another pencil point to pop out of the opening at the bottom. This is repeated at the person demonstrating explains that with direct current electrons all run in the same direction. In order to demonstrate the concept of alternating current the person demonstrating reminds the students that the pop a point pencil is the circuit and the pencil points are electrons before starting with the same actions as the direct current, moving the first ‘electron’ in one direction. This time after moving the first
