This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

In the Emergent Literacy: Classroom Demonstration (Walden University, 2014b) video, Mr. Recio provided a positive learning environment for his Pre-K students that was very print- rich. His classroom consisted of labels being displayed around the room that are new for the students. This allowed the students to be exposed to unfamiliar prints/words and learn new vocabulary as well as identify letters in the words they are familiar with. Being exposed to environmental print helps students learn how to spell as well as read in the future (Bhuvaneswari & Padakannaya, 2017). Mr. Recio also displayed letters around the classroom and during this video, they were focusing on the letter S (Walden University, 2014b). By having the letter S displayed and by focusing activities on the letter S as well as discussions, Mr. Recio was able to support his emergent literacy learners by exposing them to the letter and by gaining knowledge about the letter (Walden University, 2014b).
