Professor Kaminski HUM-101-05 People and Cultural Identities Discrimination, racism, and intergenerational trauma are just some of the issues that people face when it comes to race and cultural identity. For example, a person may face discrimination because of their racial or cultural identity, or they may struggle to reconcile their own desires with cultural expectations. While these aspects of one's identity can provide strength and support, they can also cause stress or pain in one's life. They can, in some cases, lead to common mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Cultural differences are important in shaping our identities and providing us with a sense of belonging. A person's culture is generally very important to them and has been a part of them since birth. To begin with, it can be a fascinating topic to study; there are so many cultures around the world, each with their own unique idiosyncrasies, some of which are literally stunning and, in some cases, so far away from our own society that we cannot help but look on in wonder, disgust, or confusion.
