Dan Sendik Art history 103/03 Some people exist just for public show and public enjoyment, not for their own. Modern painters must not paint subjects of the past to be good, but paint subjects of the present with modern costumes. For a modern painter, study of the old masters is very important in learning how to paint, however these studies should not be used in the painting itself. This creates an illusion of an ancient painting, not a skillfully done modern painting as it should. A lot of artists paint subjects of the past. The artists of the renaissance had no other alternative but paint the past of their time which was the Greeks and Romans. But modern painters have a wide array of historical subjects to paint from. Every age can be distinguished by its art. The art of each age has a different glint of life in its paintings, a different focus discerned by the current values.
