3Contemporary Period and 20thCentury Music Music in the contemporary period is divided into two sub-genres, the Post Romantic Period or Modernism (1900-1950) and the Modern Contemporary Period or 20th century music, while the modern contemporary period reveals more radical progressive form that inevitably led to further development of the 20th century music. Time Allotment: 3 hours Impressionism in music was a movement among various composers in Westernclassical music, mainly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose music focuses on suggestion and atmosphere, "conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tonepicture". Famous Composers and their works: Claude Debussyis one of the most important and influential of the 20th century composers. He was the primary exponentof the impressionist movement and the focal point for otherimpressionist composers. He changed the course of musical development by dissolving traditional rules and conventions into a new language of possibilities in harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and color.
