February 23, 2011 The activity in which we participated today proved to be quite beneficial  and extremely eye-opening.  Although one might think that the activity was overly dramatic, it actually taught us a great deal about social identities and the way in  which identity affects people’s lives.  Characters in the activity that we normally  believe have advantages in society, instead had the worst lives as a result of a  single social identity.  Those “inferior” social identities were overshadowed by the “superior” identities. Typically, society considers Caucasian males to be at the pinnacle of the  hierarchical structure of social identities.  Our class agreed with this assessment  of white males, and assumed that the Caucasian male character in the activity  would have an easy and successful life.  Our predictions proved incorrect, and
