Natalia Shved Paper 3 Research Paper over “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell, min 750 words Date: 04/30/2011 "Women themselves have the right to live in dignity, in freedom from want and freedom from fear.” -- Kofi Annan Susan Glaspell wrote her play “Trifles” in 1916 during the time when women had no right to vote. By the way the play was written, we can see that the purpose was to illustrate how women were bond in the face of the law. The time was right before the Women’s Right movement to Vote which occurred in 1920 and was lead by 19th Amendment. This is a very unique piece of history. This play opens a lot of suffrage and humiliation to women. This play contains many accounts of drama. Susan Glaspell’s play Trifles was written during the time when men controlled everything. The play describes the ultimate women’s suffrage story. The play opened at the scene of the crime; when Hale came to see John alive, but he saw him dead. “….. Why can’t I see him?” “Cause he is dead…” (1052). Obviously anyone can see the struggling relationship between Mrs. Wright and John, which are meant to be a husband and
