Studying high latitude ecosystems are important because: - Large Aerial extent - Greatest amount of Carbon - Climate Change 2. The Tundra is located above the Boreal Forest. 3. Boreal Forest is largest in area, however its productivity is lower than that of the Temperate and Tropical Forests, because of shorter seasonal growth time spans. 4. The Boreal: Main tree in the Boreal Forest is the Black Spruce. It is a fire- adapted tree. 5. There is an abundance of Lichens and Mosses. Mosses are major source of productivity, more than trees. 6. Boreal Forest region has frequent and massive Wild Fires. 7. Another important thing that affects the Boreal Ecosystem, besides Wild Fires, is Permafrost. 8. You will find the most permafrost thawing in the Interior of Alaska. 9. Permafrost is a structure of plant life because it traps water in soil, resulting in wetter conditions. 10.When Permafrost thaws, it leads to “Drunken Trees”. Drunken
