1 Running head: SIMPLIFIED Algebraic Expressions Simplified MAT221: Introduction to Algebra Maegan Healy Instructor Hammoud September 8, 2014 Algebraic Expressions Simplified
2 The intended concept for this assignment was to simplify algebraic expressions and Dugopolski (2012) defines that, “The result of combining numbers and variables with the ordinary operations of arithmetic (in some meaningful way) is called an algebraic expression or simply an expression” (“Identifying Algebraic Expressions”, para. 2). Dugopolski goes on to point out that such fields like forensic scientists use algebraic expressions in their line of work everyday. Average human beings use math everyday, to include algebra, without actually even knowing it. The first example that comes to mind when figuring out a algebraic expression is when someone goes into a grocery store and they have eight dollars to buy three candy bars; without even knowing it they have 3x=8 as their expression.
