2/5/13 Corporal Punishment: con Corporal punishment is bad for several reasons. It’s not effective in the long-term, it can cause physical and psychological harm, and there are more effective ways to  punish a child. The article I read discusses how corporal punishment can often lead to  aggression towards others. Some studies show that there is a “positive linear relationship  between physical punishment and aggression” Larzelere (1986). The article also talks  about how it is only effective in the short term rather than the long term. This is because  while it tells the child that what they did was wrong at the time, overtime if used every  time a child misbehaves they will get confused and not know what is good from bad. The

For example taking away something good or making children take a time out is more effective in the long term. They know that if they do something bad something good will be taken away from them, like a toy, and they must earn it back by being good. Larzelere, R. (1986).
