THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE2The Pledge of AllegianceOn September 8, 1892, the pledge of allegiance to the US flag was published in theYouths Companion and got officially recognized by the United State government in 1942. Therewas a rising controversy on the authorship of the pledge that is in 1892 where both FrancisBellamy and James B. Upham made claims of authorship. But in 1939, a ruling by the committeeof flag association was made that favored Bellamy, and a report supporting the committee rulingwas released in 1957 by the United States Library of Congress. As per the 1954 legislation,United States citizens should always stand upright and also place their right hand over their heartwhile reciting the pledge as well as men removing any non-religious covering from their headexcept the ones in uniform (Laycock, 2016). The US Supreme court ruled that there should be norequirement for any person to recite the pledge. The Pledge of Allegiance of the US is showingallegiance to the United States flag and also the country.
