The election process has drastically changed from that of earlier elections with 9.5% of Americans casting a vote for a president in 1828, compared with 3.4% in 1824. The types of people who were prohibited to vote consisted that of African Americans, Native Americans, and women. Socially and economically wise, the country as a whole has progressed.
