Natalie Kernizan Scholars Studio Intro to Sociology Dr. Elliot Parris Final Exam Historically, the system of Jim Crow has served political and economic power in the USA, and still exists today. Ever since the slave days, whites were thought of as inferior to blacks, and some people still think that way up to now. After slaves were freed, whites still wanted to be on top, everything their way. For that to happen, they had to have the right people in charge, meaning they couldn’t give African Americans a chance to have a say. The Jim Crow laws prevented blacks from having input in who was in office to make laws, which was exactly what the whites wanted. The ridiculous requirements for voting were the perfect tool, and they were politically set. As for economics, having blacks have the same rights would make them seem equal and that is the total opposite of the whites’ goal. The Jim Crow laws were unfair and were used to keep minorities down low, a place where they already were. Today, Jim Crow put on a new dress and did its make-up, because it is illegal for it to be ugly, however it still exists.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
