Natalie Kernizan Kernizan, Natalie English 102 9-9:50am 2/15/13 Pro Con Essay School Uniforms How would you feel about school uniforms, from a student’s perspective? From a parents? Safety is a key factor in the constant dispute between the pros and cons. As well as cost, values, and individuality. School uniforms can affect the safety of students more positively than negatively. If everybody at the school is dressed the same, if an outsider was to wander or solicit, they would be easily identified and pose less of a threat to students. There is also the factor of violence and bullying. School uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arise out of arguments over fashionable clothes. Kids tend to tease those who do not have trendy clothes. Those who can't afford name brand clothes are often sensitive about their clothing. Schools struggling with gang problems report that school uniforms help ease tensions. Which leads to the subject of cost. School uniforms are better for the pocket, especially compared to designer clothing. The cost of uniforms is a concern for some families, but it has been shown that families in which the children wear uniforms spend almost 80 dollars less on clothing for their children for the school year compared to those who do not have children who wear uniforms.
