Inthe long-term care(LTC) facilities, there is staffing issues related to the high turnover of licensednurses The minimal care given to residents and financial burden effects, are felt because of lownumber of nurses in nursing home facilities. This paper analyzes a research paper published byThe International Journal of Nursing Studies under the tittle of , “Making Tradeoffs BetweenReasons to Leave and Reasons to Stay Employed in Long-term Care Homes.” The study’s majorfocus was to establish qualitative reasons that makes nurses want to stay or leave their currentemployment.Problem Statement of the StudyThe resident’s quality of care, members of staff’s morale and the increased facility’s costsis some of the effects of low number of licensed nurses in nursing homes. The purpose of thestudy was to determine the reasons that make nurses work at an LCT facility (The ChallengingReality of Caring for Residents in Long-Term Care Facilities, 2015). Studies in the past onlyconcentrated on the acute care setting by non-licensed staff. Therefore, the aim of this researchwas to determine how to retain nurses staff in LCT facilities. Administrators in LTC facilities,can use this study to solve the challenges of retaining licensed nurses. In cases where there ishigh resident and staff turnover, their morale is negatively affected.
RESEARCH CRITIQUE AND PICOT STATEMENT3Research Questions and Purpose of the StudyThe point of the research was to establish factors influencing nurses to stay at LTCfacility. Questions this study was seeking to answer were: what are the factors that make nursesend their employment? and what motivates nurses to stay at their current facilities? Thequestions and purpose of this study is linked to the problem. The findings of this study helped inlearning about important reasons that make nurses to leave or stay at their station of work.
