READ 6609Module 4There are a few different literacy teams at my school. Each grade has it’s own literacy team. Each team is made up of grade level literacy teachers, the principal, the RTI specialist and the school instructional coach. Each team meets each week for collaborative planning. Patterson et. al. (2017) states, “collaborative planning expands teachers’ confidence levels and expertise and impacts student achievement” (p. 525). The main focus of each meeting is to analyze data, discuss plans to help struggling students, and to discuss future instruction. Each person has a specific role for the meetings. The principal’s role is to facilitate the meeting and to make sure everyone remains on task. The instructional coach’s role is to help the teachers analyze the data they have brought and help teachers identify the areas students are struggling in. The RTI specialist’s role is to help teacher develop interventions for those students who are struggling.
