DQ 1 Topic 1Social studies can come to life with the addition of hand-on art activities. When studying different cultures and time periods, educators can also incorporate art into their lessons. When discussing Native Americans and their culture and history, educators can have students make clay pots, study their symbols, and make projects with learned and created symbols, and/or make Native American jewelry. Students can study the artifacts in pictures and videos and re-create them. Making clay pots gives students the opportunity to work with clay as a medium to make art while also learning about the Native American culture. In my classroom I would integrate clay pot making towards the end of a unit on Native Americans.
