MECHANISTIC VERSUS ORGANIC2IntroductionEvery organization is different, regardless of whether or not they are competitors. Eachorganization has different people leading, working, and maintaining the daily goings-on. Anessential difference within organizations is their organizational structures. For this assessment, mechanistic and organic organizational structures are to be discussed, compared, and analyzed. What are Mechanistic and Organic Organizational Structures?A mechanistic organization is defined as “an organizational structure that is bureaucratic aswell as hierarchical by nature,” [ CITATION Bha20 \l 1033 ]. Mechanistic organizational structuresare highly organized, typically with very specific organizational hierarchies. This allows for theorganization to have a top-down flow of information, as well as leadership. With mechanisticstructures, the organization’s reporting structure for employees is highly enforced, meaning thatwithin the organization, should there be problems or questions, employees should seek out theassistance of their managers and supervisors, prior to moving up the chain of command. An organic organization is defined as “flat, meaning that there isn't a typical pyramid ofleadership flowing from the lower-level workers up to senior management,” [ CITATION Leo18 \l1033 ]. Organic organizational structures are more fluid, which allows for more open-minded and afreer ability to work in groups and teams. Organic organizations tend to have a less hierarchal viewof the organization, with leadership crossing into other departments, as well as team members. With this type of structure, there is more opportunity for open discussion, freedom to completetasks without tons of oversight, and the ability to cross-train employees should there be acircumstance that calls for it.
