Understanding the material or topic and the questions posed for the assignment is one of the most helpful strategies for successin college writing. This may sound basic or easily overlooked as a strategy, but it is crucial in college writing. Without theproper understanding of the assignment, the finished product will be lacking.There are a few key differences between papers and discussion posts. First, a discussion post will be shorter than a paper,typically two hundred and fifty to five hundred words. They can cover many topics; however, the breadth of those topics will belimited due to the concise nature of discussion posts. A paper will be more formal, requiring a thoughtful title and even specificformatting.As the nature of a discussion post being more informal, the tool or tools used to write the post may be more informal as well.Since the discussion post will not require specific formatting and be specific in length, a common tool might be an online word-counting composer.
