2Erik Erickson’s Psychological Developmental Theory- Neo FreudianWhile Erikson is known for his theory on the psychological development of humanbeings, many of his ideas were pre-established by Freud but reinterpreted by Erikson. UnlikeFreud, who believed that people go through a "life drive" development due to changes insexual behavior, Erikson describes how each stage is associated with physical maturation andinfluences the social world (Funder, 2019).Erickson described the varying challenges that a person faces during different agescalled the "life-span development" or "Psychosocial Development Theory." This theoryincluded developing specific skills in childhood, relationships in adulthood, and an overviewand assessment of one's one life in old age (Funder, 2019)In Erikson's eight-step theory, he believes that at each stage in life, we go through. Tobecome fully functional adults and confident members of society, we must complete each stepand resolve conflicts (Lewis & Orenstein, 2021).
