Particular social structures are fairly common across most human societies (e.g., work roles, family roles, gender roles, etc.), and most humans experience these structural forms in fairly similar ways. First, define “role” and “social structure” in a manner consistent with the definitions provided in class. Second, in light of these two definitions, why does social structure exert such great influence on individuals and societies? Third, provide one concrete example from your own life and use it to precisely illuminate how social structure exerts such influence on you. [20 Points] Roles are - the right and obligations - expected of someone occupying a particular status, while Social Structures are a network of the individual's statuses and roles that guides human interaction. Social Structures affect how you think of yourself and how you view yourself because that's how you think everyone else sees you, that then leads into stereotypes. For example, growing up I did not live in the best neighborhood. All the apartment complexes were very small and cramped but there was one house in particular on our street that was a nice house, a “mansion” as we would call it.
