1 Creating a Literacy Environment Brittany McNair Master of Science in Education, Walden University READ6706: Literacy Development, Pre K–3 Ruby Willey-Rendon September 8, 2021
2 Creating a Literacy Environment One Literacy Framework that I observed in the Early Literacy Lesson Media was Interactive Perspective. The teacher used a diagnostic assessment to introduce the book (Laureate Education (Producer), 2014c, 00:00:45-00:01:00). She asked the students questions about the concept of print. In the article Different Types of Assessment and What You Need to Know about Them, it states, “Different assessments types, when utilized by the coach (teacher) in the right way, can help the runner (student) run the race better and more effectively” (Tookoian, 2018). Using this diagnostic assessment to understand what her students know, allows her to understand what she needs to reteach and go over again for her class. Another Literacy Framework strategy that the teacher used was Foundational Perspective, which was used when she brought attention to the text in the book (Laureate Education (Producer), 2014c, 00:03:00-00:03:36). It was mentioned that the teacher only intentionally talked about rhyming words from the book instead of both rhyming and the alphabetical order of the book. Here the teacher purposefully mentioned rhyming words due to the students already knew the alphabet and their letters (Laureate Education (Producer), 2014c, 00:03:54-00:04:03).
