As you progress through the assignment,you’ll also progress through the thought-process of diagnosing and repairing malfunctions, as well aspredicting the need for certain preventative maintenance.Troubleshooting is a process of asking or investigating, and answering, a series of increasingly detailedquestions to arrive at the cause of a malfunction. This worksheet will “walk you through” theinvestigation required to troubleshoot a firearm. As you move on to more advanced concepts in laterweeks, you will begin generating and predicting the questions you need to answer to diagnose amalfunction.Instructions:Read each situational description below and answer the questions in the space provided. Many of theprompts will build on the previous ones, so please do not read ahead on this assignment. Answer onepart of the assignment at a time, before reviewing the subsequent prompts.Part 1.Customer brings you an early-1900’s Winchester 1892 that he recently inherited. He states that it hasbeen in his father’s gun cabinet for at least 50 years, and he can not remember the last time he saw hisfather take it out. Besides a little surface rust, the rifle appears to be in fairly good working order.The customer’s complaint is thatthe rifle is not feeding when he charges the action. He claims he can“get it to work once in a while, but not consistently”. He is only attempted one type of ammunition, thathe found in the drawer of his father’s gun cabinet. He has not fired the rifle since inheriting it; he is onlytried to cycle ammunition.
