2Personal Leadership Action PlanIntroductionLeadership refers to the act of exercising influence over other people to achieve a leader’sgoals, aims, or purposes in a particular line of work or project. Raju (2018) asserts thatleadership is more about direction than speed. According to the Great Man and Trait theoriesdocumented by Raju (2018, p.131), people inherit certain traits and qualities that entirely makethem better suited to leadership. For that reason, certain inborn traits and characteristicspredispose different people to become leaders. As such, born leaders are entirely different fromartificial or born leaders. In this case, the most remarkable leaders in history have a similarhistorical account behind them, i.e., they were all leaders from their journey’s onset. Overall,leadership remains an art and not a science, referring to an asset of innate characteristics,perfected and refined over time with experience, training, and good education. Consequently, thispersonal leadership action plan (PLAP) objectively examines my current leadership style,abilities, weaknesses, and strengths while taking a candid and careful inward examination ofwhere I am as a leader and envisioning my career's future direction.Leadership does not refer to the actions done by individuals. It is a set of traits that denoteindividual conduct in motivating, directing, and coaching people to attain a particular goal orobjective. For that reason, the entire process of leadership dwells on effectively and efficientlyimproving excellence in others. Every person is born with a set of individual traits and skills thatmakes them better suited to leadership (Shannon et al., 2020). However, leadership is a diverseconstruct, different from one person to another. Notably, any sufficient, competent, and well-versed leader in a specific field always plans for their ultimate success. Such a plan includes apersonal project to grow and a goal to improve their traits. Besides, a good leader must conceive
3the future through an intriguing vision and applaud different subordinates, workers, or followersin coming on board to achieve the vision. For that reason, influential leaders must motivate theirsubjects and ensure that the vision is attained effectively. Leaders depend on teamwork, training,hiring effective assistants, and coaching as efficacious strategies and approaches to achieving themission at hand.Effective leadership does not resonate with building positions or attaining power butemploys self-awareness to understand and capitalize on one’s strengths. It involves recognizingone’s weaknesses and surrounding oneself with the right lot of followers or people to win theirtrust, work together, and attain an envisioned objective.
