Chapter 27: 27-4, 4a DQ 1 How did the Civil War affect the home front? What was the connection between the home front and battlefront for both North and South? How did the strategy of total war affect the outcome and legacy of the war? The impact of battle on the home front during the Civil War was felt by the two sides. The struggle for women on the two sides was taking its toll. For one, their men who did most of the actual work around their properties or plantations were gone, either by volunteering in and enlisting or being drafted. That implied the job of the women would change as they needed to pick up the jobs and or chores left by the men heading out to battle in the war. The South was affected more as the North changed its war tactics to total war. The utilization of the total war strategy destroys the South. This was a lesson for the South for inciting the North into war. Before changing the strategy, the North engaged their battling just against the officers, letting private property be. Presently, it was no holds bar. The North was determined to annihilate whatever would help the South in its war endeavors. This implied attacking and annihilating
