Marinov1 Victoria Marino Professor Tanya Franklin English 250 September 23, 2014 ABC Essay The ABC book Eating the Alphabet, was written by Lois Ehlert and is an excellent example of its genre. Ehlert’s work contains many of the aspects that makes a book fit in the alphabet category. The story utilizes 74 different fruits and vegetables to teach children their ABCs. While some of the foods depicted are mundane, others are more exotic providing learning opportunities to teach a child new fruits and vegetables along with the alphabet. The book is simple and more appropriate for young children compared to the older readings from the textbook. The format of the book is letter-object-word. For each letter presented, there illustrations of different foods along with a word to tell what that food is. Some of the letters have as many as six foods to go along with them. Because of this, there are many kinds of letter sounds on display as well as some not so common foods such as the jicama. The typography is very clear but the words are placed in different corners on
