Psychology Movie Abstract Anterograde amnesia is a disorder that deals with the inability for a person to store new long- term memories. Many studies and tests have been done on patients with this disorder like the famous HM tests. The implication of anterograde amnesia is presented in the movie Memento by a character named Leonard, and his struggles of finding out who killed his wife. 2

Psychology Movie In the film Memento, Guy Pearce plays a character known as Leonard who happens to have anterograde amnesia due to a head injury. This film was composed of many flashbacks that assisted you in finding out who raped and killed his wife. The main character Leonard must battle through his difficulties with his disorder and find out whom he can and cannot trust on a day-to-day basis. This film has quite a few subjects that deal with psychology and the ways a man with such a condition can function in society. One major difficulty that the main character Leonard had to overcome was the fact that he had anterograde amnesia. As mentioned in our textbook, Introduction to Psychology 8 th Ed By James Kalat, antergrade amnesia is the inability to store new long-term memories (2005, p. 277). The cause of this type of amnesia is usually cause by a brain injury and the person who has been hit will remember everything up to the injury (Broman, Rose, Hotson, Casey, 1997). Leonard uses Polaroid’s and tattoos in order to remember events that have been unable to be stored due to the anterograde amnesia. As the viewer of the movie you too are almost “hit” with the disability
