ORGANIC BACKYARD GARDENING(Project Proposal)I.Background of the ProjectThe COVID pandemic has led to a huge resurgence of interest ingardening. During this difficult time, it is gardening that helps people to stayphysically and mentally healthy and providing a welcome release from thestresses related to this crisis. Gardening has been considered as a relaxingrecreational activity that provides great personal rewards. During this time,gardening can be a positive family-inclusive activity to adopt when manypeople are working at home and students are learning at home. Gardeningcan help as in providing our own needs such as food which are vegetablesand fruits.Gardening was once a normal part of life for most people. Eventhough times have changed we still have the ability to grow some of ourown food for as to consume. Conserving a local food source is importantand doing the gardening activity is good for the body and soul. So insteadof just staying at home and ending your day unproductive, why not tryingorganic gardening in our own backyard.But in the other hand some of as are not into gardening becauseothers think that it needs a huge space of land. That’ why I propose thisproject the ―Organic Backyard Gardening Project‖ because inthese timeswe are about to experience challenges such as lacking of foods.
II.Project DescriptionOrganic gardening is a system where soil fertility is maintained andreplenished by utilizing organic matter, compost and mulch without the useof manufactured, synthetic chemicals. It helps to prevent a loss of topsoil,toxic runoff, water pollution, soil contamination, soil poisoning, and death ofinsects, birds, critters and other beneficial soil organisms, as well aseliminating pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide residues on food fromsyntheticfertilizers.Organicgardening is gardening withoutsyntheticfertilizers and pesticides. Indeed, organic gardening is much more thansimply replacing manmade chemicals with those derived from naturalsources.i. ObjectivesThe overall goal is to promote healthy and sustainable livelihoodsfor rural dwellers in the village of Hihifo, Haʻapai.
