Nicholas Cersosimo Grand Canyon University RES – 815: Introduction to Research Dr. T. Rios August 25, 2021 1
Reflecting on the Revision Process The synthesis process was the most challenging for me to complete. I read the feedback from Dr. Rios several times to understand and implement the changes that were presented to me. Being my confidence isn’t that strong yet, I realized how crucial it is to gather evidence and integrate the findings in your paper. For example, my thesis statement was well developed, but I did not have the thesis statement at the end of the first paragraph, which did not flow too well for the reader. Also, I did not realize that in APA7 format that the paper does not use a header. Therefore, feedback was very beneficial, and I have an organized file system for all feedback. I don't want to make the same mistakes twice. As a doctoral student, to transform into a doctoral scholar, my writing will need to continue to improve. This in turn will assist with answering discussion questions as well as completing the writing assignments. Throughout this course, I can see an improvement in my writing which has helped me with my confidence. In this class, I have read articles that give suggestions on how to improve my writing and create a scholarly identity. I continue to work on this process. The methodology of this course is well organized and structured. I find that each topic being taught is creating a stronger foundation in my writing. Revised Synthesis Paper: Socialization Through socialization, online doctoral students have a sense of belonging, and socialization can aid in the creating of scholarly identity. Postgraduate programs are opportunities for socialization into an academic discipline, particularly to prepare graduates for successful academic careers (Garcia & Yao, 2019). Online students often report a lack of sense of 2
community, however, as there is little interaction with peers and no face–to–face interaction with professors. A sense of community and belonging is critical for a successful doctoral journey.
