(Appointments can be madeat:4dc02c8426b2cd1)Office Hour Location:See Zoom link on ILearnCatalogue DescriptionThe purpose of the course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of businesscommunication, exposure to common formats of business writing, effective oralpresentations, and the ethical and legal implications of business communication. Theemphasis is on hands-on experience creating effective communication at the standardof quality expected of business professionals.Prerequisites:COMM 150 or equivalent with a grade of C- or better and upper division standing.My DescriptionThis course will be tailored to your interests and skills. In order to support your career,you will investigate your choice of industries, companies, and countries, among others.Via robust research and multiple drafts and revision, you will systematically produceseveral documents typically used in business, such as reports, emails, proposals, workplans, progress reports, budgets, and cover letters and resumes. We will also focus onelectronic production and communication, which is especially being used now. You willpractice relevant oral communication techniques, such as discussion, pitches, andfindings. You will develop skills in editing for accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness ofstyle and tone with consideration of intra-, inter-, and extra-office communications andinformation delivery modes, including email, .pdf, websites, and appropriateprofessional instant messaging. We will experiment with varying online platforms thissemester. Peer feedback, teamwork, and active listening will play essential roles. Usingvarious resources, such as the J. Paul Leonard Library, as well as communicating withme will be vital.

Demonstrate working knowledge of the fundamentals of businesscommunication.2. Communicate using common business communication formats (interpersonalcorrespondence, formal reports, and oral presentations)3. Comprehend the standards expected of business professionals and preparemultiple drafts of a document in order to achieve those standards.4.
