Prerequisite: IFSM 201. An introduction to networkingtechnologies for local area networks, wide area networks, and wireless networks. The aim is to recognize the type of network designappropriate for a given scenario. Topics include the OSI (open system interconnection) model, security, and networking protocols.Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: CMIT 265 or CMIT 265M.Course IntroductionThis course is an introduction to networking technologies for local-area networks (LANs), wide-area networks (WANs), and wirelessnetworks, with an emphasis on the open systems interconnection (OSI) model, security, and networking protocols. By the completionof this course, you will be able to identify network topologies, media types, interconnectivity, and protocols.You will participate in lab simulation activities and develop a network design proposal. Our aim is to prepare you for the CompTIANetwork+ certification exam. Concepts learned in this course will be directly applicable to the IT networking field.Note: This course is identified as a prerequisite for another course at UMUC. Successful completion of this course is required toadvance to the next course in a sequence. A grade of Withdrawal (W), Failure for non-attendance (FN), Failure (F) or Incomplete (I) willnot meet a prerequisite requirement. You may be barred from enrolling in or may be removed from courses for which you do not havethe necessary prerequisites. Keep track of your progress in this course. If you are uncertain about your standing, consult with yourinstructor.
