Surname 1 ENGL- 1C Analysis of Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Surname 2 Social Analysis Argument Abuse, hunger, poverty, and injustice abound in our imperfect world. Many writers envision an ideal environment in which these challenges do not arise to solve these issues, thus escaping a new future(Gilman) . The land of Herland, created by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is one of these perfect imaginary utopic communities: it represents an ideal country free of crime, inequality, constant, and starvation among its people(Gilman, and Gilman) . To draw attention to certain apparent flaws of society, Gilman developed a utopia in which removing men from the community is the solution to reducing imperfections. Gilman uses her book to share her thoughts on feminism during the late-first wave of the feminist movement. They consider the women of their society to have masculine physical characteristics, such as a lack of curves and short, functional hair. The women are physically powerful, as shown by their country's prominent buildings. Feminism refers to the activities and campaigns that promote women's economic, social, and political equality with men(Johnson-Bogart) . It strives for equity with men, as women have traditionally been overlooked in roles and their tasks relegated to the kitchen. Herland is a feminist utopia in which women live entirely independently of men. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was still desiring to construct a compensatory feminist utopia as a means of resolving the supposed challenges of degenerate modernity. Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote
