Vicky Junco Español 201 1 The Subjunctive and its uses: El Indicativo We have used the indicative mood to state facts (what is happening, what regularly happens, or what has happened) and to talk about what you are certain will occur. The indicative is used to talk about actions or states the speaker sees as real. El subjuntivo The subjunctive is a verbal mood used for anticipation or hypothetical actions or states . It is used to express more subjective concepts as well as to make statements about wishes , wants and emotions . Also used to express doubt , uncertainty , or negation . The most common use of the subjunctive is for influence – in the form of wanting, hoping, demanding, preferring, recommending and prohibiting. The present subjunctive To form the present subjunctive, use the yo form of the present indicative, drop the final – o , and add the subjunctive endings. Hablar Comer Vivir Yo habl e com a viv a habl es com as viv as Ud.,él,ella habl e com a viv a Nosotros/as habl emos com amos viv amos Vosotros/as habl éis com áis viv áis Uds.,ellos/as habl en com an viv an The present subjunctive of these verbs with irregular yo forms is as follows: Conocer: conozca, conozcas … Decir: diga, digas … Hacer: haga, hagas … Oír: oiga, oigas … Poner: ponga, pongas … Salir: salga, salgas … Tener: tenga, tengas … Venir: venga, vengas … Ver: vea, veas …
