2 Unit 1: Practical Application Assignment The top three choices of historical events that shaped the security profession of today would to be going back from the 13 th century B.C., the watch system, and Pinkerton security. There was an Egyptian Pharaoh name Ramses II, he hired the Nubians, Libyans, Syrians, and other military and native security forces to protect wealthy citizens and their property. According to our textbook, Schmalleger states on page 3 that, “men who had been castrated at an early age, were employed as security forces in many cultures.” I believe that that is how people today are influenced into joining law enforcement. They saw that those before them are protecting or serving others, they put their lives on the line every single day. Not knowing whether this would be their last day on earth. “Perhaps they were considered more trustworthy, as their loyalty would not be challenged or tempted by a woman to whom they might have otherwise have been attracted.” (Schmalleger pg. 3) This statement has changed throughout time for some people not all. Some men and women start families and leave the department, or they go to a more secured field like a desk job. Others do not plan on getting married or having children; they are simply in it for the job. When referring to this quote, “To enhance secu-rity, fires could be lighted at the entrances of caves, or large rocks could be moved to make the caves less accessible.” (Schmalleger pg. 3) I
