Before you open your wallet, you shouldevaluate whether such products are based on sound science—that is, whether the claimsare backed up by convincing evidence grounded in rigorous research.Being penny-wise is just one reason to determine if a health product has a scientific basis.Buying dubious health products can affect your health in multiple ways. First, if you are“treating” your health problem with a product that does not work, then you probably arenot benefitting as much as you could if you visited a doctor. Second, some unscientifichealth projects may actually do harm, causing serious illness or even death. After all,many are neither tested or regulated by the government.
