CHAPTER 3 Unsaturated Hydrocarbon -Contains multiple (double, triple) bonds Cis and Trans -Cis – same group on same side -Trans – Same group on opposite sides. E-Z -Z – higher priority (greater atomic weight (or number)) is on same side (z is like Cis) -E – Higher priority is on opposite sides (E is like Trans) Vinylic carbons -Carbons that are part of the carbon-carbon double bond. Allylic Carbons -Carbons that are next to carbons that are doubly bonded. CHAPTER 4 Electrophile Reactions -Electrophile – positive species that is attached. -Nucleophile (Nu) – negative or neutral species that does the attacking. -Slow step – formation of carboncation. -Fast step – nucleophile attacking carbocation. -Faster step – rearrangement. -Markovnikov – H adds to least substituted carbon (least number of carbons directly attached) -Anti-Markovnikov – H adds to most substituted carbon (most number of carbons directly attached).
