Social/ physical distancing is not alwayspossible in the laboratory setting.The following guidelines must be followed inorder to protect yourself and others fromCOVID-19These guidelines are an addition to thealready existing lab safety requirementsoutlined in this presentation
PPE Requirements:Students, faculty, and staff must wear a face mask thatcovers their nose and mouth ANDeither a face shield ORsplash goggles at all timesThe department will provide one face-shield per studentStudents must purchase the appropriate splash goggles(ANSI Z87.1 splash goggles)Goggles should be used instead of a face shield on days thatmicroscopes are being used (ask your instructor ifmicroscopes will be used in your lab)Students without appropriate PPE will not be allowed into thelab roomEveryone in the lab should be wearing disposable glovesto reduce the amount of touch-contamination
Maintaining a Clean Environment:Students should disinfect surfaces such aslab benches before and after labStudents should minimize the amount ofcontact that they have with high-touchsurfaces (such as lab lap tops, anatomicalmodels, etc) and clean any surfaces afteruseStudents, faculty, and staff should wash theirhands frequently while in the lab

Accidents Are Not Planned•Accidents happen when we least expect them.•The following slides contain some of the mostimportant requirements for your protection.•Each student is expected to review and comply with allsafety rules given in your CCBC chemistry lab manual.•Carelessness or refusal to adhere to instructions couldlead to bodily harm and/or loss of property.•Failure to follow these rules may result inIMMEDIATE DISMISSALfrom the laboratory.•Upon the discretion of the instructor or lab manager,serious or repeated offenses could result inPERMANENT DISMISSAL.7
Safety Goggles Must Be Worn at All Times•Safety goggles protect your eyes from chemicalsplashes and flying objects.•As long as someone in the lab is working on anexperiment, goggles must be worn—even ifyouare finished and merely doing calculations atyour station.•Splash-proof goggles that fit snugly on the faceare required.•If you wear prescription glasses or contact lenses,you must wear these over your glasses or lenses.8
