H. English, 1A Ms. Hughes 9.27.2011 Lost in the Jungle It began in twisted vines that casted throughout the dark jungle. I was tangled above the shadows that were once of my ancestors, who were trying to keep me caged in this solitude, lost and forgotten. They drenched the ground beneath my weary, dangling feet, where they were ready to catch my fall. I couldn’t get loose though, I was too afraid they’d let me fall into the unknown, breaking my being. I took in a deep breath and started to relax my hot, sweaty body that remained in disaster within the coldness. The sweat that covered me started slipping downward into the dark casted jungle. My bewildered head came to the bottom of the demanding vines, and I plummeted into the shadows. They grabbed every fragment of my body, pulling me every which way almost splitting me in two. One shadow grabbed one arm while another grabbed the opposite leg and they’d pull me to where they wanted to take me. Unfortunately for them, I wasn’t as flexible as they perceived. This was absolutely no way to get out of the caged jungle that I trapped myself into. Eventually the shadows gave up, just as I thought they would and I dropped onto the jungle’s floor. The ground felt cold and that coldness made the dirt harder than what I was used to. The trees above me were practically mountains. They looked as if they went right through the fluffy clouds that I could just barely see above me. Little light went through the jungle and curious, peering eyes would follow my movements. I started my walk in the way I thought was home, but an eerie essence unwillingly brought me to another mode. It came from some creature
that was crawling near. I quickly sprawled behind a bush to see what the noise was coming from.
