Easter Island Lab- Revised Name: Brooke LaVoy Date: 10/23/20 Materials and Methods: This lab was conducted at Easter Island. It focused on measuring the population density and sustainability for the population. These were measured six times. The years measured were 900 AD, 1200 AD, 1400 AD, 1500 AD, 1600 AD, and 1800 AD. A time machine was used to travel back in time to be able to take accurate readings. The first measurement taken was a line transect. This spanned over 200 meters and was used to count the number of Mulberry Trees and Palm Trees. It was 10 meters wide. The other measurement was taken using a drone. This was used to fly over different civilizations of 40.5 kilometers squared and count the populations. The total areas surveyed was 162 kilometers squared. This was repeated for every time period. To find the tree density, divide the number of trees by the area of the transect. Results: Table 1: Easter Island’s tree and population numbers collected and density from 900 AD to 1800 AD.
