The responsibility of the officials that sit on the Joint Commission board is to address crucial areas of the healthcare field such as performance standards, patient care, medication standards and safety, the control of infection, and the rights of consumers. The Joint Commission is a non-profit organization the supports voluntary healthcare programs for healthcare organizations. Some accredited programs related to healthcare that the Joint Commission accredits are behavioral health programs, nursing home, pharmacy services, and home care organizations.
