How did parties shape late nineteenth-century politics? Political parties dominated political life. There were two main parties the Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats were in charge of the south and the Republicans were in controlled of the North. The Progressive Era During the period known as the Progressive Era (1890s to about 1920) the U.S. government became increasingly activist in both domestic and foreign policy. Progressive, that is, reform-minded, political leaders sought to extend their vision of a just and rational order to all areas of society and some, indeed, to all reaches of the globe . What arguments were made in favor of American expansion in the late nineteenth century? Manifest Destiny advocates argued: virtue of the American people and their institutions; the mission to spread these institutions, thereby redeeming and remaking the world in the image of the U.S.; the destiny under God to accomplish this work.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
