a b n a b n x 3.71 5.24 3 3.71 5.24 3 0 0.1 ARE YOU READY FOR PART 1 OF MATHEMATICS FOR BUSEINSSS DECISI Here is an exercise that uses some of the basic computer skills which yo you start Part 1 of Mathematics for Business Decisions . Follow the direction most efficient methods to carry out each step . When you are done, return to Computer Skills Will You Need? in MBD Part 1.ppt . for information on how t your results and techniques. Let f ( x ) = ax n + bx where a is the number in Cell B43 , b is the number in and n is the integer in Cell D43 of this sheet. You are to find the values of f ( x numbers x ranging form 0 to 100, in tenths. These are given by x = 0, 0.1, 0.2 This is to be done in such a way that the values of the function will be recomp automatically whenever the values of a , b , and n are changed in Columns B, C DIRECTIONS 1. Enter the labels a , b , n , x , and f ( x ) in Cells F42 , G42 , H42 , J42 , and respectively. Format the text in italics. Define Cells F43 , G43 , and H43 to b Cells B43 , C43 , and D43 , respectively. Format Cells F42:K42 and F43:H43 entries are centered in the cells. 2. Enter 0 in Cell J43 and 0.1 in Cell J44 . Drag these cells down to au enter the numbers 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, . .. , 100 in Cells J43:J1043 . 3. Enter a formula for f (0) in Cell K43 , using a relative cell address for absolute cell addresses in Columns F, G, and H for the values of a , b , and n . will begin with the expression =\$F\$43*J43^\$H\$43, and then continue as need formula down to automatically fill Cells K43:K1043 . Format Columns F , G , with width 5, and Column K with width 16. Format the entries in Cells K43:K numbers with 4 decimal places displayed. 4. Enter 3.71, 5.24, and 3 in Cells B43 , C43 , and D43 , respectively. Re entire sheet, so that the values of f ( x ) are changed. 5. Place borders around all cells in the block F42:K53 . Use Copy and P the entire block of cells into the Word document Report 1.doc , as a table. Sav Computation 1.xls . Go to the file Report 1.doc and follow the directions that there.

Cell F43 must be defined in terms of Cell B43 , not copied or typed in. The same applies to Cells G43 and H43 . Point 2 . All formatting of fonts, alignment, column width, and numbers must be as specified. Point 3 . The numbers in Column J must have been entered by dragging down the first few cells, not by typing individual numbers. Point 4 . The formulas in Column K must have been entered with absolute addresses (\$'s) for the constants and relative addresses for the variable. Point
