When the Aztecs begin dying off, Cortes and his men return to the Aztec Empire and takeover, making it a Spanish colony.Tenochtitlan: The capital city of the Aztec Empire, which is now Mexico City. Hernando Cortes, a Spanish explorer, and his men find gold in this city, making it extremely valuable in their conquest. When the Spanish explorers come to take over, he immediately bribes them, hoping to be allies with them and avoid warfare. He also believes that the Spanish are the human form of he Aztec god, Quetzlcoatl so he befriends the Spanish. When the Spanish first try to take over Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire, they take Moctezuma hostage, which sparked the revolt of the Aztecs against the Spanish, who initially drive them out of the city.Atlatl: An Aztec weapon used in the battles against the Spanish conquerors. This was a stick-like weapon made out of wood with Volcanic glass on the end of it. Since the Aztec’s overall weaponry was less developed than the Spanish weaponry, this weapon gave them an upper hand in hand-to-hand combat. Quetzalcoatl: An Aztec god who was supposedly thrown out of the Pantheon of gods for being an alcoholic. He says that when he returns he will “come back from the east and bythe sea.” This makes the Aztecs believe that the Spanish explorers are Quetzcoatl and they soon become vulnerable to the Spanish. Even Moctezuma bribes the Spanish men in hopes of becoming allies with them because he believes that they are gods also. This
