Daryl Gallagher English 110 Dr. Cross Why Is America Afraid of Food? In recent years America has become paranoid about the food they eat and the drinks they consume. With an obesity epidemic sweeping the nation, many people are radically changing their diet and eating habits. Along with personally change, there have also been changes in national food companies and some government regulations to influence and meet the growing trend. One way the government is stepping in is by controlling the food served to children at school cafeterias. This movement has a great affect on children because they are left with little choice of what to eat. The only way to avoid eating the healthier food provided for them at school is to bring in their own food, and no parent is going to pack them a big juicy cheeseburger. Just as the government stepped in to pass child labor laws, the government is now stepping in to pass regulations on the way children eat in schools. Congress had the Institute of Medicine conduct a study to find out the best course of action to better the
