MNGT 5590 2013S2Week 7 Case AssignmentRead the case "Rotating Leaders: Orpheus Orchestra" and answer the following question:How are the concepts of substitutes for leadership and leadership neutralizers relevant to this case?Remember to answer the question using the facts of the case and the concepts introduced in the textbook and any additional readings. You must also clearly explain your reasoning. The concept of substitutes for leadership and leadership neutralizers is relevant to “Rotating Leaders: Orpheus Orchestra” in that it engulfs many decision styles all at once by immersing the members into both leadership and subordinate roles all at once. It’s rather astounding, while also inspiring, to see a group of experienced individuals overcoming leadership hurdles together as a team. By breaking down the walls between leader and follow, each member has experienced exposure that has enabled each one of them to broaden their scope of influence. It takes a patient individual to sit back and accept criticism from his peers and utilize it as a successful tool. By incorporating and equally interchanging the leader and follower roles, orchestra members are able to see from both sides of the mirror and view perspective in both situations to build on their expertise in music. The equal disbursement of leadership eliminates the egotistical sense of self that some leaders may possess with their power over others while also exposing members to humility and compassion towards the views of others. In order to be a successful leader, one must possess the ability to express empathy and do so in a convincing manner. The best way to learn this is by immersing oneself directly into situations that force us to see from another’s perspective. The orchestra’s method is a near perfect example of just how to accomplish this.
