The theme of racism is strongly represented throughoutthe entire story. Racism is usually defined as prejudice or discrimination directed againstsomeone of a different race based on such a belief. It often takes the form of socialactions, or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently traits,abilities or qualities and in some waysmay also be defined as the hatred of one person byanother, like in Othello.It takes place in Venice, Italy and in Europe during this time,people of white complexion were the majority and all other races were considered to beless important and inferior, portraying the attitude of European society towards those thatwere different in color, race, and language. Othello, the supreme commander of theVenetian army, was a brave soldier and tragic hero from Africa.
