Psychology Notes  17/01/2008 12:04:00 Four goals of Psychology     Describe  the different ways that organisms behave Explain  the causes of behavior Predict  how organisms will behave in certain situations Influence  (control) an organisms behavior Two types of research      Basic research  is done to seek new knowledge and to explore and advance  general scientific understanding. Nature of memory, brain function, motivation, and emotional expression Applied Research  is conducted specifically for the purpose of solving practical  problems and improving the quality of life Topics: memory improvement, decreasing stress, increasing motivation… Approaches to Psychology     Biological Approach  Focuses on how genes, hormones, and nervous system interact with our  environments to influence learning, personality, memory, emotions, and coping
